And now, the latest from Dwight Howard! According to Chris Broussard, new Orlando GM Rob Hennigan recently had a meeting with Dwight Howard, where Howard said that he still wants to be traded to the Brooklyn Nets and leave Orlando. Howard also claimed that he was “blackmailed” by Orlando at the trade deadline last season when he opted in to the final year of his contract. Howard reiterated that he wants to play with Deron Williams in a Brooklyn uniform.
Of course, this can only be good news for the Nets, but it may not matter unless Howard makes a public statement that he wants to leave Orlando. If the Nets can somehow pull off a trade for Howard within the next couple of hours (literally), it will probably sway Deron Williams to sign with the Nets, if he has not made that decision already. I don’t believe that a trade is eminent at this time, because the Nets have very few pieces to trade, although Jordan Farmar now could be included in a trade for Howard.
Meanwhile, Deron Williams’s free agency has just begun. Game on!
