Forward Mirza Teletovic earned a great reputation as an elite shooter in Europe this past season. Some analysts have called him one of the best scorers in Europe. However, some NBA scouts are sarcastic about his NBA potential, claiming that he is a poor rebounder and defender. He has drawn a comparison to ex-Net fan favorite Bostjan Nachbar.
Offseason report: So motivated to join the Nets, Teletovic paid for his buyout from his Spanish team and accepted an underwhelming contract to join the Nets.
Even before the Nets signed Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries, and others, Teletovic seemed committed to joining the Nets. He paid out of his own wallet for his buyout from Caja Laboral. He visited Billy King this summer, enjoying a flight in a private jet that Mikhail Prokhorov paid for. He expressed to the press that he is excited about all the acquisitions the Nets have made this summer. In recent games for his Bosnian National Team, Teletovic has led his team on offense had some awesome scoring games. Against the Netherlands, he exploded for 33 points (26 points came in the first half). This guy can score and is an intriguing pick-up for the Nets.
Predictions for 2012-2013: Coming off the bench, Teletovic will consistently get significant playing time. He will knock down a lot of open threes and show some flashes of brilliance, but take some bad shots and be overall inconsistent. He will be a defensive and rebounding liability.
Teletovic seems to be a very proven scorer, but flawed player. Many evaluations of Teletovic question his defensive physicality and rebounding ability but laud his shooting stroke. He will excite Nets fans at times but sometimes frustrate Coach Avery Johnson with poor defensive rotations and lackadaisical rebounding. He will need to adjust to the American style of play and this will take a lot of time. Look for Teletovic to improve over the course of the season and ultimately have a few great shooting games in the playoffs.
