Avery Johnson: “We Got a Lot of Work To Do”

Avery Johnson

Avery Johnson has been in Texas this week, visiting high schools to talk about making good life choices and being with his family. However, reporters were of course interested in basketball and not what Avery does in his free time.

When asked about the Nets moves in the offseason, Johnson said that he loves what Billy King has done, especially with Deron Williams, who Avery considers to be the best point guard in the league. Unlike Brook Lopez, Mirza Teletovic, and Joe Johnson, though, Avery would not go as far as to say that the Nets are already thinking about winning a championship. ”We’re not there yet. We’re not a championship team. We got a lot of work to do. But at the same time, we have a much better talent pool than we’ve had the last two years”.

These comments are very accurate from Coach Avery. The Nets have not won anything yet and have not made the playoffs in 5 seasons. They have nothing to brag about until they can at least make it in to the playoffs and win some playoff games. The Nets should be excited to begin their campaign in Brooklyn, but if they do not play well, their championship aspirations from the beginning of the season will look silly.
