The Association: Brooklyn Nets Episode 1 Recap

Last night, after the Brooklyn Nets come from behind victory over the Boston Celtics, NBA TV showed the premiere of the 4th season of its show, The Association. As we all know, the team they will be covering this year is the new-look Brooklyn Nets, yet another way the Nets are being covered in the national media.

The first episode of the season was more about Brooklyn than it was about basketball. It talked about the history of Brooklyn and Brooklyn sports, including the Brooklyn Dodgers and Brooklyn Cyclones. The episode also described the “Brooklyn attitude”. People in the borough are tough and they love anything that comes out of Brooklyn. Therefore, they will love the Brooklyn Nets and will pack the Barclays Center for every home game.

The episode did cover the Nets offseason, as well as some of the tough decisions Billy King had to make. In an interview shown, Billy King said that Deron Williams told him not to pursue Dwight Howard if the Magic didn’t seem willing to trade him. Because Deron said this, as soon as free agency began, King quickly traded for 6-time all-star Joe Johnson in order to keep Deron a Net.

In the offseason, all the Nets came into training camp early, and Deron Williams was in especially good shape. In the next episode of the show, which will air on November 2nd, the Nets begin their training camp. Expect scrimmages and preseason games to be covered, as well as more interviews with the players.

I liked how the show focused on Brooklyn, the borough, and the video of Billy King talking to the Orlando GM at a hotel room.
