The Brooklyn Nets have announced that center Brook Lopez will not play in either Florida game this weekend after spraining his foot in Wednesday’s game against Boston. Although we are not sure exactly when Lopez sprained the foot, he clearly was not playing well for most of the game and it is not surprising that he was playing injured. The Nets have said that it is not the same part of the foot that caused Lopez to miss 61 games last season and this is not a recurring injury.
With this injury, expect Andray Blatche to start in Lopez’s place in both games. Luckily, Blatche has been playing well and they will still have a quality player starting at center with Lopez out. Also, expect seldom-used forward Mirza Teletovic to get a little bit of playing time while Brook is out. The Nets have a pretty small team, especially without Lopez, and I expect Mirza to get a significant amount of playing time on the road trip. In the last 3 games he has been inactive, not even dressing to play. He will be activated on the road trip.
