Predictions for NBA Rising Stars Challenge: Team Shaq vs. Team Chuck

Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley

Tonight at 9 pm eastern, the first major event of all-star weekend will be held, the NBA Rising Stars Challenge. The coaches of the two teams will be two former all-stars and hall-of-famers, Shaquille O’Neal (Team Shaq) and Charles Barkley (Team Chuck). No Brooklyn Nets will be participating in the event, although it will be one of the funner events of the weekend. Here’s a quick look at the rosters:

Team Shaq:

Damian Lillard (Portland)
Kyrie Irving (Cleveland)
Andrew Nicholson (Orlando)
Klay Thompson (Golden State)
Harrison Barnes (Golden State)
Chandler Parsons (Houston)
Dion Waiters (Cleveland)
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (Charlotte)
Tyler Zeller (Cleveland)
Kemba Walker (Charlotte)
*Andre Drummond (Detroit)

Team Chuck:

Anthony Davis (New Orleans)
Kenneth Faried (Denver)
Kawhi Leonard (San Antonio)
Bradley Beal (Washington)
Ricky Rubio (Minnesota)
Tristan Thompson (Cleveland)
Nikola Vucevic (Orlando)
Brandon Knight (Detroit)
Isaiah Thomas (Sacramento)
Alexey Shved (Minnesota)

When looking at the two rosters, Team Shaq appears to have an edge in the backcourt led by Damian Lillard and Kyrie Irving, while Team Chuck has better forwards: Anthony Davis and Kenneth Faried.

I believe that the key to this game will be if Ricky Rubio can keep Team Chuck in the game. Team Shaq should win because of their guards, but if Ricky Rubio can throw lots of alley-oops to Faried and Davis, he will keep Barkley’s squad in the game.

Expect to see lots of dunks, 3-pointers, and exciting plays in this fun night of basketball.
