Brooklyn Nets starting guard and 6-time all-star Joe Johnson will not be suited up tonight for the second straight game after injuring his leg last Saturday in Los Angeles against the Clippers. This will be Joe’s 5th missed game of the season, all since the all-star break.
The Nets won their game on Sunday without Joe, but that game was closer than it should have been against the last place team in the western conference. Although Portland is not a great team either, they still have an outside chance at landing the last playoff spot in the western conference and the Nets will need to play better tonight than they did on Sunday to win.
To make things worse, Joe has said that he is not sure when he will return. There is a good chance that he will miss the remaining two games on the road trip after tonight. The Nets will head to Denver on Friday, followed by a trip to Utah on Saturday.
The Nets have been very cautious with injuries this season, so I will be a little bit surprised if Joe plays in any of the remaining games on the trip. Early in the season, Brook Lopez had a foot injury which we thought was day-to-day. Brook ended up missing seven games.
Although I would be surprised to see Joe miss that much time, with the Nets already having clinched a playoff spot and are also looking good to get home court in the first round, they might decide to rest Johnson until he is back at 100%.
