According to reports early this afternoon, it appears that Bulls center Joakim Noah is doubtful for game 1 tomorrow night at 8 pm. Noah has been suffering from plantar fasciitis over the last month of the season. He did come off the bench in Chicago’s last two games of the regular season, but apparently he had a setback since then. Here are a series of tweets from Bulls beat reporter Nick Friedell.
Thibs sounds concerned about Noah. Says his status for whole series is day to day at this point. Obviously Noah’s foot really bothering him.
Noah says he had a setback. His foot is killing him. Sounds very doubtful for tomorrow and the next few days.
Noah is very down. Says he is mad at himself and only has himself to blame for playing in regular season games he probably shouldn’t have.
Noah said he still wasn’t sure if he would play tomorrow but he did acknowledge that Nazr would start. He seems to know he’s out a little.
Noah: “I’ve got a tear in my foot … I’m upset at myself because I let this linger for a long time and I have nobody to blame but myself.”
More Noah: “I just wish that I was a little bit smarter. I played games in the regular season that I probably shouldn’t have played.”
Noah has been playing too many minutes this season and it is finally coming back to haunt him now. Replacing him in the starting lineup will be Nazr Mohammed, who is a serviceable backup but is not nearly the offensive player that Brook Lopez is.
The Nets catch a huge break with this news, especially if Noah misses more than game 1. It also makes game 1 all the more important. If the Nets can’t beat Chicago without Noah or Derrick Rose at home, will they be able to beat them in any other game?
Game 1 will be tomorrow night at Barclays Center.
