We have seen this movie before. The Brooklyn Nets lost another road game tonight against the lowly Charlotte Bobcats, 95-91, despite a pretty good fourth quarter comeback effort thanks to bad Charlotte shooting. The big story from the game was Deron Williams, who injured his ankle just a little over a quarter from coming back from another ankle injury. Andray Blatche led the Nets off the bench with 25 big points, including a bunch in the fourth quarter.
This game was very similar to a lot of Nets losses this year. They hung around in the first half and then had a really, really bad third quarter. The Bobcats tried to let the Nets back into the game in the fourth quarter by shooting around 20% from the field, but the Nets couldn’t prevent offensive rebounds, which eventually brought about their downfall. They were outrebounded on the offensive glass 17-3 in the game.
There’s nothing Nets players can say anymore about these losses. This just looks like a bad team and at this point, I’m really not sure if they will even make the playoffs.
Player grades and notes:
Kevin Garnett: D
KG somehow had 8 rebounds, but this was one of the worst rebounding games I’ve seen in a while. He let Jeff Adrien get offensive rebound after offensive rebound in the fourth quarter when the Nets were trying to come back. His paint defense was also awful, allowing the Bobcats tons of layups. Brooklyn needs Brook Lopez back ASAP.
Paul Pierce: D
Pierce had another poor shooting night at just 3-11. He wasn’t involved in the offense and didn’t do anything on defense either.
Joe Johnson: C+
Joe had a good first quarter, but kind of disappeared after that and didn’t do much in the fourth. Still finished with 19 points, but they weren’t especially good points.
Shaun Livingston: C
Livingston replaced Deron Williams after his injury and had probably his worst game as a Net. Was only 1-5 from the field, but had a couple of nice assists and got more rebounds than most of the team.
Andray Blatche: B
Blatche had a great offensive 4th quarter which kept the Nets alive, but his defense was again pretty horrible tonight. He finished with 25 points on 11-14 shooting, so I guess we can’t be too hard on him.
Alan Anderson: B+
Did his job. Hit his 3′s. Played with good effort on defense. Not much more you can ask for.
The Nets continue their short road trip on Friday night in Minnesota where they will try to finally stop this losing streak. FRWD will have coverage of the game.
