Brooklyn Nets Blow Out Charlotte Bobcats in Last February Home Game

The Brooklyn Nets got a much-needed home win Wednesday night in Brooklyn, the last home game for the team this month, defeating the Charlotte Bobcats 105-89. The Nets were led by Paul Pierce, who scored 25 points, including 14 in the critical third quarter. Mirza Teletovic and Andray Blatche also had 13 each off the bench. Kemba Walker led Charlotte with 16.

The Nets gave one of their best offensive showings of the season tonight, having very few turnovers, and taking smart shots. It was really pretty beautiful to watch, especially in the third quarter, when Brooklyn outscored Charlotte 35-19. After that run, the game was really over and the subs closed it out.

The Nets will not return to Brooklyn until March. Following a road game tomorrow, the Nets have all-star weekend to relax and then begin a season long west coast road trip. We will probably finally figure out who the “real” Nets are on that trip.

Player grades and notes:

Kevin Garnett: A-

KG didn’t play much tonight, but when he did, he was very good. He defended Al Jefferson much better than Andray Blatche and his jumper was falling. Hopefully he will be able to play tomorrow as well after only playing 15 minutes tonight.

Paul Pierce: A+

Pierce had a good first half, scoring 11 points, but the third quarter is where he really got things rolling, scoring 14 points in the quarter alone. He finished the game with 25 points in only 22 minutes on 9-11 shooting and 5-5 from 3. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Deron Williams: B

Deron still struggled with his shot tonight, but everything else looked pretty good. He had 7 assists and was a big part of the offense.

Andray Blatche: B+

Blatche didn’t do a good job on Al Jefferson in the first half, but offensively he was very good and had a couple of very big dunks. This was a “Good Blatche” game.

Andrei Kirilenko: A-

Kirilenko didn’t do anything spectacular, but he did so many small things that gave the Nets extra possessions and he also made lots of good passes. The Nets are such a better team with AK47 in the lineup.

Mirza Teletovic: B+

Mirza had a pretty typical game, 13 points and trio of 3′s, to go along with 8 rebounds. He picked up a couple cheap fouls in the first half, but only had one more the rest of the game.

The Nets have a quick turnaround again and play tomorrow night in Chicago. Hopefully Kevin Garnett will be able to play in that game after playing only 15 minutes tonight.
