Phil Jackson

According to ESPN, former Lakers and Bulls head coach Phil Jackson says that he is not interested in coaching the Brooklyn Nets. Jackson told the Nets earlier this afternoon that he will not be coaching the team next season.

Jackson says that not only will he not be coaching the Nets next season, but he never wants to coach in the NBA again. He is looking for a front office position where he would be able to control the transactions of a team. The Nets already have a general manager who just received a 3-year contract extension in Billy King, so it does not appear that Jackson will be coming to Brooklyn anytime soon.

This news comes as no surprise to Nets fans. Jackson has always said that he is not interested in coaching and it would have been surprising if he changed his mind.

King and the Nets thought that they might as well contact Phil to gauge his interest level before moving on to other candidates. With Jackson out of the way, reports are saying the Nets will now focus their coaching search on Brian Shaw, Larry Brown, Scott Skiles, and maybe a few other current assistant coaches in the league.
